International flight: Carry-on baggage

Carry-on baggage

Baggage that you may carry on to a flight must be 1 personal item (such as a handbag, camera or umbrella) that meets the following conditions.

Size A total of 115 cm or less in 3 dimensions (55 cm × 40 cm × 25 cm)
Quantity Up to 1 per person
Weight Up to 10 kg
  • *
Some baggage that is within the size requirements may still be accepted as checked baggage when it cannot be stored in the cabin.
  • *
Due to stricter airline security and safety within the cabin, we request your cooperation in decreasing the amount of carry-on baggage.
  • *
The size of your baggage will be checked at the security checkpoint.
    • A gage that checks size is installed at the baggage checkpoint.
    • Baggage that exceeds regulations cannot undergo a safety inspection.
    • You will be asked to check baggage that exceeds the size permitted for carry-on baggage at the check-in counter.
  • *
A passenger who brings baggage that exceeds the carry-on size restrictions and is fragile (such as instruments or paintings) or who requires 2 or more seats will be required to purchase an additional seat.
Please contact SF CALL CENTER (For International Flight Reservation and Information) to purchase an additional seat.

Carry-on restrictions for liquids

The restrictions for carrying liquids on board are as follows.

  • 1
All liquids, gels and aerosols should be put in 100 mL or smaller containers.
Liquid of 100 mL or less may not be in a container that exceeds 100 mL, and such containers must be checked in as checked baggage.
These include drinks, creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, sprays, shampoo, shaving foams, air fresheners and aerosols, pastes such as toothpaste, semisolid materials and similar items.
    • *
100 mL is also equal to 100 g.
  • 2
If these containers are 1 liter (1000 mL) or less in volume, place them inside a transparent, resealable, plastic bag with a total circumference of 40 cm or less.
Be sure to bring your own plastic bag.
  • 3
    Only 1 bag per person.
Separate the transparent plastic bag from your other luggage and show it to the airport staff at the baggage checkpoint.

For details, see the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism website.

Medicines, baby formula/baby food and other specially restricted foods

The amount you will use on the flight you board does not have to be inside the transparent plastic bag and may be carried on. However, the carry-on of baby formula, baby food and all other infant drinks and foods is limited to those accompanying infants. In addition, you may be asked to show a medical certificate from a doctor that lists a diagnosis as well as a copy of a prescription for any prescription medications.
