Turning marine waste into “treasures”! ~The Future of a Shining Man~
© メ~テレ/企画:民間放送教育協会
There is a man whose eyes shine when he picks up garbage from the sea, saying, "It's a treasure!" Masasuke Mase (29), a former navigator. His job is to turn marine plastic waste into “beautiful products” and sell them. There are various types of products such as earrings, lamps and tables. We aim to add value to waste plastic, which has been treated as "garbage" until now. In December 2020, Mase moved with his family from Nagoya to Toba City, Mie Prefecture. When he came to Toba, he made a living by helping farm oysters. After that, he set up the equipment with subsidies and bank loans, and after a year, he finally started manufacturing products in earnest. Today, we receive orders for products from fashion and tourism industries all over Japan. Young people from all over the country flock to see Mr. Mase and want to help him with his work. We followed the days of a hot man who tried to change the "values of garbage" with local people and young people.
